PACKING THE PACK
Five weeks…Can I get everything I need in a 33 liter back
pack? As you can see from the photo, I
laid everything out.
Here is the list:
2 pairs of quick dry convertible pants-to-shorts 1 Water
bottle
2 pairs of underwear 2
pairs of hiking socks 2 pairs of sock
liners
2 camisoles 2
long sleeve T shirts 1 belt 1 silk long underwear
1 hat 2
bandannas 2 hankies 1 pair sandals 1 pair hiking boots
1 polartec vest 1 windbreaker
1
pair gloves toiletries (all travel
size)
1 large quick-dry towel
1 Pilgrim Credential 1
camera 1st aid kit 1 simple cell phone mp3 player
appliance cords 1
plug adapter 1 sarong wrap 1 silk sleeping bag liner
1 sleep sheet 1
thermal/Mylar blanket 1 bungee cord safety pins
Swiss Army knife Sun
glasses eye glasses 1 headlamp hiking
poles guidebook
GOOD NEWS! I could fit it all into the packing cubes and
then into the backpack.
BAD NEWS! The backpack weighs in at 16.25 pounds. That
weight does not include the hiking boots and poles and the clothes I will be
wearing. The weight goal for the pack is between 10 and 12 pounds. Outside the pack I will be carrying two
liters of water that weigh in at over 4 pounds.
Any suggestions to lighten the load?
Is there anything you are taking which you can live without? Skip guidebook, and cut out pages you will need? Can you take lighter weight sandals? How accessible is water on the trail? Could you do it with one bottle?Good luck!! Rooting for you!!!
